Funeral services were conducted from the Waurika Lake Seven th Day Adventist Church, North of Waurika, Oklahoma, Tuesda y, Nov 6 at 3 PM with Pastor Ciro Costilo officiating. Bur ial in the Hastings Cemetery, Hastings, Oklahoma, under th e direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters, Oklahoma .
Robert Lynn Smith was born to Samuel Vernon and Mary M ay (Bassett) Smith on Nov 21, 1911 at Randlett, Oklahoma, a nd departed this life on November 4, 2001 at Waurika, Oklah oma at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 13 days.
Robert attended school at Cache Valley. He started fa rming at the age of 11 to help his father. He lived and wo rked on several farms in Western and Southern Oklahoma. H e also worked at Metalspan until 1975 and farmed the Uria h Millen farm, near the Red River, along with his wife, Mar y Pauline until his health failed.
He was a member of the Hastings Baptist Church for sev eral years and then became a member of the Waurika Lake Sev enth Day Adventist Church where he served as Deacon for man y years.
His parents, two sisters, Emma Irene Hayes and Nora Ea rl Purinton, and a grandson, Michael Goodwin, preceded hi m in death.
Survivors include : His wife, Pauline of Waurika, Okla homa, his daughter, Kay Smith Goodwin of California; his br other John Vernon Smith of Cushing, Oklahoma; ten stepchild ren; two grandsons, Robert and Charles Goodwin; twenty thre e other grandchildren and 6 great -grandchildren, numerou s nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
From birth Robert lived in a little 2 room boxed house fo r 4 years. The family then moved to a farm near Devol fo r 2 years. Now 6 years old they moved to farm 12 miles wes t of Walters. Robert's father was in poor health so he bega n farming at age 11 and continued to do so until 1993. In 1 931 the family moved near Hastings where the family lived u ntil 1963 when Robert's daddy died. During this time Rober t married Grace McCauley and they had one child. After a di vorce Robert lived with his parents. When his father died t hey sold the farm and he and his mother moved to Hastings . After his mother died in 1975 he married Pauline Miller a nd they lived on the Miller farm west of Waurika and Rober t farmed.
