He left for a time to go to Oklahoma but came back t o Texas settling in Warsaw, Texas. In Texas he set up hi s own store as in Kentucky. Upon his death he left the sto re to his granddaughter Inez.

The trip from Kentucky to Texas was made by train with thei r five children.
Owned a Grocery - General Store in several locations in Kau fman county.
Conflict in Information: Jack Ferguson lists the second ma rriage of James Mann Wright as being to Talitha Riddle. In ez and Faye Wright remember this second spouse and believ e her name was Esther Harlan. They were not sure if this w as her maiden name or if it was her name from a previous ma rriage.

James always owned and operated in store in Kentucky and Te xas. Charles Linden Smith remembers once his store was mov ed 1 1/2 miles in Crandall by rolling down the road on logs

Have found his middle name listed as Mann and Mantan in th e literature.

Letter Typed By Myrtie On Retirement (Jim Smith Has Origin al On File)

May I begin with, I remember when I started my teaching car eer in Garvin County in 1928. I remember coming to Cotto n county, Fariview #99 my home school in 1930. I remembe r meeting the nicest and best young man of my life and marr ied in 1934. I remember Union in Stephens county, then Gre gg our home school on to Valley View District 86. I rememb er Roy and I had some great basketball and baseball teams . I remember we closed two country schools and on to Walte rs in 1949. I remember Roy has been my stay all the way . He gave me help and courage. I remember the old 4 stor y yellow brick building when I came in. I remember a lot o f changes in Walters, yes some good and some bad. I rememb er mumps and measles. I remember many flowers and gifts, s weet notes, and drawings. I remember so much that I ough t to write a book. Now what should I call it? "Memories o f Paddles and Lines". but I would rather tell you in thi s note. I remember, chiefly I remember all of your faces . I never forget them. I have thousands of faces in my mi nd - faces of boys and girls. If you come up to see me aga in in years to come - as I hope you will - I shall try to r emember those older faces of yours, but it's just possibl e I shan't be able to - and then some day you'll see me som ewhere and I shan't recognize you and you'll say to yoursel f "Old Faithful" doesn't remember me. But I do remember yo u are you are now. Also, your parents when they were child ren and even grandparents. That's the point you never gro w up at all, never. Some of you boys may be governor or th e mayor and I will think that's the little chap with the ha ir that stuck up on top, or a girl may be Miss America an d I will remember the cute dimple or smile. You see childr en I will remember you as you are today. Think of me somet ime - I shall certainly think of you, - your parents and gr andparents. To my "teacher buddies", it has been great wor king with each of you - Thanks for the good times and help . To all my County Superintendents, thanks for your help i n rural schools. To my Great Principals and Superintendent s, "Thank You". A big Thanks to my School Boards everywher e. To all you Parents and Grandparents, "Thank You" for yo ur children, without them my life would not have been so fu ll. I'm sorry I crack up and could not tell you this fro m my mouth, but it comes from my heart. Signed with the be st wishes to all - for I remember.
Love,
Myrtie Collins

Myrtie taught at the Fairview Schoolhouse outside of Temple , Oklahoma. While not sure when she began there she did fo r sure from 1931 until 1934 when she married Roy. Among he r students were J.C. Smith, her brother, and Elbern Shelton . Elbern has shared that the only whipping he ever got fro m a teacher came from Mrs. Collins (Wrestling on the scho ol grounds was strictly forbidden)

Not long after their marriage Roy and Myrtie lost their hom e to a tornado that came through detroying not only their h ome but also their barn and out buildings.

Myrtie was an Elementary School Teacher who taught around T emple and Walters, Ok. She went to college at Central Stat e College in Edmond, Oklahoma and also in Wichita Falls Tex as. She earned a bachelors and a masters degree.

Roy and Myrtie were avid Square Dancers. They travelled al l over the United States to Square Dance get togethers. He r walk in closet was full on both sides with pretty dresse s she had made for dancing.

The Collins home was the summer getaway place for all the c ousins. All of Bennie and Hazels, J.C. and Ruth's, kids wo uld leave the city life for a summer on the farm. Myrtie a nd Roy would put them to work in the gardens, and hay field s as they got old enough. Nights and weekends there woul d often be trips fishing at Lake Texhoma or square dancin g around the area. It was a great time for all the kids t o earn a little summer spending money, learn some valuabl e lessons about work and family, and just enjoy being aroun d Myrtie and Roy.
