She was never married until all of her children were adults . It is said that each of her children were concieved thr ough different fathers. When she died she was in a car acc ident and she was decapitated. Lived with a Mr. B.T.Waldo a t one time. Signed her name R.J. Harris. Joined church (? ) 25 Apr 1887. Brother named John & sister named Elizabeth , from father's first marriage to Rutha J. She is shown o n the 1870 Cumberland county TN census as Lucy. Her son Cur tis says that she was buried in Roane county, TN. with no m arker in the Walnut Hill area. Listed as Jane Harris in th e 1860 Cumberland county, TN census, page 528.

In the Rockwood Times (local paper)- Sep 17, 1931 on fron t page is article on the wreck with McNabb family causing d eath of Mrs. Harris, well known in the community as Mrs. J . C. Casteel - age 60. She was removed to the home of he r son, C. E. Harris of Harriman, TN for the funeral and bur ial in Harriman City Cemetery. Here is the article:

AUTO COLLISION KILLS WOMAN ON GLEN ALICE ROAD Mrs. Casteel' s Throat Cut By BrokenWindshield--Two Injured Mrs. J. C. Ca steel, 60, of Glen Alice, better known in that community a s Mrs. Harris, was killed, and Clark Vitatoe, of Spring Cit y, and a 3-year-old son of Jack McNabb, of Glen Alice, wer e injured when an automobile andtruck collided early Saturd ay evening on the highway near Glen Alice station. The tru ck was driven by Jack McNabb and occupied by Mrs. Castell a nd members of the McNabb family. The car was driven by Ro y Vitatoe, of Spring City, who was accompanied by his fathe r, Clark Vitatoe, 60. Mrs. Casteel was thrown through th e windshield and her throat cut, resulting in death a shor t time afterwards, before she could be brought to the hospi tal here. The elder Vitatoe suffered bruises and painful c uts about the face, and was taken to Chamberlain Memorial H ospital, where he remained till yesterday. Funeral service s were conducted Monday afternoon at 2:30 at Harriman for M rs. Casteel, being held at the home of her son, C.E. Harris , on Tennessee Street. Interment was in the Harriman Cemet ery. The following account of the tragedy was given by th e Glen Alice correspondent of The Times: Several from her e attended the funeral of Mrs. Harris in Harriman Monday af ternoon. Mrs. Harris was almost instantly killed Saturda y night in an auto wreck, when a car driven by a Mr. Vitato e ran into a light truck driven by Jack McNabb, son-in-la w of Mrs. Harris. McNabb had his family and Mrs. Harris i n the truck. Mrs. Harriswas thrown through the windshiel d and her throat cut. One of the little McNabb boys was bru ised and cut pretty bad. Other members were bruised and sha ken up, but not seriously wounded. Mrs. Harris was well kn own here as she had made her homewith the McNabb family fo r several years. She was enroute to the home of her son, C urtis Harris, in Harriman, at the time of the accident.

On my Mom and Dad's wedding night there were several peopl e in the house where they spent the night and Ruthie was i n the bedroom where they were. She bawled and said to my m other "You've taken my Curtis from me." She continuously c aused problems for them during their marriage, prior to he r death.
