Will of William Knox, written 2 Jan 1778 presented in cou rt 1 Mar 1778 In the name of God Amen; I William Knox of Be rkeley county and county and Colony of Virginia being ver y weak and sick but in perfect mind and memory thanks be t o God for it calling to mind the mortality of my Body do ma ke and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner an d form as follows I recommend my soul unto the hand of Almi ghty God that gave it and my Body I recommend to the Eart h to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discreti on of my Executors and as touching worldly Estate wherewit h it hath pleased God to Bless me in this life I give devis e and dispose of the same in the following manner and for m first I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Hanna h the full third part of my whole estate during her life wh ich I allow to be her full share of my Estate.

Item I give and bequeath to my eldest son William Two Hun dred acres of Land lying and being on the waters of Pidgeo n creek which I purchased of Henry Newkirk to him his Heir s and assigns forever likewise an equal share of my persona l estate after all my lawful debts is paid which I allow t o be his full share of my Estate, likewise I give and beque ath to my three next sons John George and Enoch the remaind er of the above Tract of Land to be equally divided amongs t them to them their Heirs and assigns forever together wit h an equal share of my personal Estate which I allow to b e their full share of my Estate.

Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Esther wife to Ja mes Small one Heifer two years old which I allow to be he r full share of my Estate likewise I give and bequeath to m y sons James Jesse and Moses and Daughter Margaret an equa l share of my personal Estate to be equally divided amongs t which I allow to be their full share of my Estate likewis e I constitute make and ordain my well beloved wife and m y son William to be the sole Executor of this my last wil l and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow and revok e all former Testaments Wills Legacies and Executors ratify ing and confirming this and no other to be my last will an d Testament.

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal t his second day of January in the year of our Lord One Thous and seven hundred and seventy eight.
