Individual Note: Sarah "Sally" Wood Jones, born 29 March 1830 in Fentress Co., TN, died 27 February, 1897 in St. Clair Co., MO, married Abijah
Cross Riddle, born 16 February, 1829, died 3 November, 1909. They were married on 7 March, 1850. Abijah served in the Civil War.
After the war, they joined the westward trek for greener pastures. The Riddle family left Cumberland Co., KY on 14 October, 1878 in
a covered wagon pulled by mules, and they arrived in Tally Bend, St. Clair Co., MO on 16 November of the same year. A thoughtful,
careful man, Abijah kept a journal of their journey. A copy was sent me several years ago by a distant cousin. The women pieced a
beautiful quilt en route to MO and a picture of it was sent also, as was a picture of the little white house built over the graves of
Abijah and Sally. The family history is that Sally made Abijah promise to build a cover over her grave so no rain would ever fall on
it. On the day she was buried, Abijah sent some of the sons to place a temporary cover over Sally's grave, and soon had the little
white house built. It remains to this day.
